Focus Area:Teacher Recruitment & RetentionThe goal in this area of focus is to develop strategic personnel practices designed to successfully recruit and retain fully credentialed and high-quality teachers. These efforts are guided by the Tri-County Personnel Directors Council. Tri-County Teacher Exit Questionnaire:The questionnaire was implemented in May 2005. The annual administration of the questionnaire is an ongoing effort to look at the reasons teachers give for leaving a school, a district or the profession. The information derived from the on-line questionnaire will help guide policy and practices for regional teacher retention efforts. The data from the region's lowest performing schools will be used in the design of professional development plans to better meet the needs of the teaching staff in these more challenged schools. In addition, these data will assist local policy-makers in addressing issues highlighted in the Williams case settlement regarding attracting, retaining and properly assigning teachers in our lowest performing schools. Universal Use of Ed-Join:By June 2005, all districts with 500+ student enrollment and the three county offices of education utilized the Ed-Join online electronic job posting and application process. The use of Ed-Join provides a paperless and much more efficient process for K-12 personnel offices. The data from the Ed-Join service, in turn, provides an in-depth look each year at where our teacher applicants come from and what are their experiences and qualifications. In addition, the data provide districts with rich feedback regarding successful components of their recruitment process and areas where improvement could occur.
