Students

Welcome

Welcome, potential COSMOS Alumni! If you are considering COSMOS, please know that COSMOS is for students who like to have fun while they learn. Here's what some of our alumni have to say about COSMOS:

“I found it to be one of the most inspiring experiences in math and science I have ever had.”

“COSMOS was an amazing experience that I will never forget. It allowed me to get my feet wet in the field of marine biology and assured me that it is what I want to major in at college.”

“I can’t thank you all enough for giving me the chance to attend COSMOS, but in a sentence: COSMOS was the time of my life.”

“Not only was I taught by well-respected professors and the finest scientists in their fields, but I was surrounded by other self-motivated students that are also working hard to achieve what they want in life as well.”

Before Applying, Don't Forget...

1. You can only apply to one campus - either UC Santa Cruz, UC Irvine, UC Davis, or UC San Diego.

2. Each campus offers different clusters. You can apply to up to three clusters. You will have to rank your preference on the online application.

3. Some clusters have prerequisites. (For example, you may need a year of Algebra II, Chemistry, or Biology to be considered for a cluster.)

4. The online application closes on March 16th. All supporting materials should be mailed in to the COSMOS office before the deadline.

Tips for Applying Online

Here are a few tips for applying:

  • Go to the UCOP COSMOS website and print out all available worksheets.

  • Before going online, make sure you have everything you need beforehand, like transcripts and essays.

  • Don't forget you will need two general essays and a essay for each cluster you pick. If you have them written in a word processing program, then you can just cut and paste them into your application.

  • Make sure you have a valid email address before you begin. You will need it for the online application.

  • Please refer to each campus's Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) or UCOP's FAQs for returning students and 8th grade policies.

  • Once you log in the information you enter will be saved so that you may log out and return without losing data.

  • Check your application status before the deadline, to check that we have all of your materials.
