Student Life

Housing:

dancing in the quadCOSMOS students live in UCSC's College Nine residence halls under the supervision of on-site staff, including a Coordinator for Residential Education (CRE) and undergraduate Resident Assistants (RAs). Students share double rooms furnished with a bed, desk, chair, and bureau for each student. Each room has ethernet capability and a telephone line. Students are encouraged to bring their own telephone for making local and calling card calls.

Meals:

Residence hall food is served cafeteria style, three times daily. The wide variety of food choices include vegetarian and vegan options. Students will have the opportunity to purchase food off-campus for a few meals on weekends and during recreational outings. However, sack meals are always available free of change.

Health Services:

Urgent care medical services are available for COSMOS participants at the UCSC Cowell Health Center. Facilities include a complete outpatient clinic staffed by physicians and nurses, supported by a clinical laboratory. Clinic services are available on a "fee-for-service" basis. Upon admission to the program, all parents must complete and sign a "Consent for Care of Minor" form and a "Health History" form as a condition of admissions to UCSC COSMOS. After-hours services will be provided by Dominican Hospital in the city of Santa Cruz.

Recreational Activities:

Every afternoon, students have the opportunity to participate in recreational activities. Some examples of afternoon activities include:

  • Use of athletic facilities: tennis, basketball, softball, soccer, volleyball, jogging, and swimming
  • Use of music facilities, including pianos and practice rooms
  • Use of dance facilities
  • Art activities
  • Watching movies, reading books, writing letters
  • Hiking

Student Conduct:

COSMOS students are expected to be considerate to fellow COSMOS students, faculty, and staff. This includes actively listening to your professors and residential staff, and adhering to the rules set forth in the Participant Agreement and the COSMOS handbook.
