Welcome

The focus of our program is to encourage young minds to explore the areas of mathematics and science, with top faculty and researchers from the University.

Benefits of Attending COSMOS

COSMOS is an academic enrichment program. COSMOS does not replace high school or college course work, and does not grant academic college credit. COSMOS participation does help students demonstrate their academic excellence, and provides a distinctive opportunity for students to develop integrated skills for success in a college-like residential learning community. Students who apply to the University of California may reference their participation under "Special Program Participation" directly on the UC application. COSMOS also gives students a unique opportunity to work closely with university faculty who may be helpful with recommendations to college. For more information on the COSMOS application process, please click the "Apply To COSMOS" button to the left.

Ways to Stay In Touch When Your Child is Away

Letters: A hand-written (or typed) letter is a great way to communicate with your child and to help them feel in touch with the family. Students are thrilled to receive mail and can read a letter over and over. Encourage other friends and relatives to write letters as well.

Email: Students who bring a computer to COSMOS will have an easy time accessing email (please have them set up an account prior to COSMOS). However, all students will have access to the computer lab. Academic activities are given priority over email and internet use, but students will have open access 5-7 days/week. If your child sends a quick note in lieu of a long, detailed update, it’s probably because there is a line of students wanting to get on the computer.

Phone: The number of pay phones on campus are limited. Each room has one phone line, but students will need to bring their own telephone. Using this line, students will have free local call and may use a phone card for long distance service.

Phone Messages: To get a message to a student quickly, you can phone the COSMOS office and leave a message. The RA will get the message to the student that day.

Fax: You can also send a fax to the COSMOS office. Faxes are delivered to students daily.

Cell Phone: Cell phone use is not allowed during class time or other academic activities.

COSMONotes: COSMOS distributes a newsletter once a week to students. If parents have access to email, they will receive a copy of this newsletter electronically. Many parents find this general piece of communication extremely reassuring.
