Overview
Designed specifically for talented and motivated high school students, the California State Summer School for Mathematics
and Science (COSMOS) is a 4-week summer residential program for high school scholars with demonstrated interest and
achievement in math and science.
The program is also open to exceptionally advanced and emotionally mature 8th graders capable
of participating in a one-month program away from home. This intensive experience is intended to encourage the brightest and
most promising young minds to continue their interest in these fields. Located on four University of California campuses
(Davis, Irvine, Santa Cruz, and San Diego), COSMOS provides students with an unparalleled opportunity to work side-by-side
with outstanding researchers and university faculty, covering topics that extend beyond the typical high school curriculum.
OUR MISSION
The California State Legislature established COSMOS with a mission to motivate the most creative minds of the new generation of prospective scientists, engineers, and mathematicians so that they may actively participate in the business and higher educational sectors of the State of California.
OUR INSTRUCTORS
UC Santa Cruz faculty and researchers have created courses in exciting topics including Astronomy, Ocean Science, and Robotics. Students will learn from the experts in the field and have interactive, hands-on experiences in university labs and facilities.
ADVISORY BOARD
The statewide advisory board is composed of scientific and technological
leaders in higher education and industry will guide the California
State Summer School in Mathematics and Science. Representatives
to the board include faculty of the University of California and
public and private universities, as well as CEOs from the corporate
sector.
